Getting Started

Installation

  1. Download Log-K from the Apple App Store
  2. Install the app on your iOS device (iOS 15.0 or later required)
  3. Launch the app from your home screen
  4. Grant necessary permissions when prompted
Note: Log-K requires iOS 15.0 or later and uses iCloud for data synchronization across your devices. The app is fully compliant with EASA and FAA digital logbook requirements.

First Setup

When you first launch Log-K, you'll be guided through the initial setup process:

  1. Welcome Screen: Review the app introduction and features
  2. iCloud Setup: Enable iCloud synchronization for data backup
  3. Permissions: Grant notification permissions for sync alerts
  4. Prior Experience: Optionally add previous flight hours and landings
  5. Module Selection: Choose which features to enable

Flight Logging

Adding New Flights

To add a new flight entry to your logbook:

  1. Tap the "+" button in the main logbook view
  2. Select "Add Flight" from the options
  3. Fill in the required flight information
  4. Add optional details if enabled in modules
  5. Tap "Save" to store the flight entry

Optional Module Fields

Extended Times Module

When enabled, adds fields for:

  • Pilot in Command (PIC) time
  • Single Engine time
  • Multi Engine time
  • Cross Country time
  • Night time
  • Instrument time

Runway Module

When enabled, adds fields for:

  • Departure runway
  • Arrival runway
  • Runway conditions

Approach Type Module

When enabled, adds:

  • Approach type selection
  • Visual, ILS, VOR, GPS options
  • Approach notes
Important: All flight times should be entered in decimal format (e.g., 1.5 hours for 1 hour 30 minutes) for accurate calculations and regulatory compliance. Log-K maintains EASA and FAA standards for digital logbook entries.

Simulator Sessions

Log-K allows you to track simulator training sessions separately from actual flights. This is essential for maintaining accurate records for license requirements.

Adding Simulator Sessions

  1. Tap the "+" button in the main view
  2. Select "Add Simulator Session"
  3. Fill in simulator-specific information
  4. Add training details and procedures practiced
  5. Save the session to your logbook

Note: Simulator sessions are tracked separately from flights and appear with a distinct icon in your logbook for easy identification.

Data Management

Search and Filter Functions

Log-K provides powerful search and filtering capabilities to help you find specific flights quickly:

Search Options

  • Airport Search: Search by departure or arrival airport codes
  • Registration Search: Find flights by aircraft registration
  • Date Range: Filter flights within specific date ranges
  • Flight Type: Filter between flights and simulator sessions

Using the Search Function

  1. Tap the search icon in the logbook view
  2. Enter your search terms (airport codes, registration, etc.)
  3. Use filter options to narrow results
  4. Tap "Apply" to see filtered results
  5. Clear filters to return to full logbook view

Import and Export Functions

PDF Export

Generate professional, EASA and FAA compliant PDF reports of your logbook:

  1. Open Settings from the main menu
  2. Scroll to "Export Options"
  3. Tap "Export Complete Logbook"
  4. Choose export options (date range, format)
  5. Share or save the generated PDF

LogK File Format

Log-K uses a proprietary .LogK file format for data backup and transfer:

  • Contains all flight data in JSON format
  • Includes metadata and version information
  • Can be opened directly in Log-K app
  • Useful for backup and data migration
Tip: Regular PDF exports are recommended for official documentation and backup purposes. Log-K PDF exports are fully compliant with EASA and FAA requirements for digital logbook submissions.

Cloud Synchronization

Log-K uses Apple's iCloud service to keep your logbook synchronized across all your devices.

Setting Up iCloud Sync

  1. Ensure you're signed into iCloud on your device
  2. Grant iCloud permission when prompted by Log-K
  3. Your data will automatically sync across devices
  4. Check sync status in the Settings menu

Module Management

Prior Experience Settings

Add flight hours and landings from before using Log-K:

  1. Go to Settings → Prior Experience
  2. Enter previous flight hours (hours and minutes)
  3. Enter previous total landings
  4. Save changes to update statistics
Note: Prior experience is included in total statistics but doesn't appear as individual flight entries.

Troubleshooting
